Public Eye Health & Vision Care Guidelines

Good vision is fundamental to daily life and productivity. Deep Eye Care Foundation issues the following medical guidelines to help families and communities preserve their sight.

1. Diabetic Eye Disease (Diabetic Retinopathy)

Every person with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes should undergo a dilated retinal examination at least once every 12 months, even if vision feels completely normal. Retinal damage often develops silently before vision loss occurs.

2. Pediatric Vision Milestones & Squint

Squint (strabismus) in children is never normal and does not improve on its own with age. Early diagnosis before age 7 prevents irreversible lazy eye (amblyopia). Consult a pediatric ophthalmologist immediately if you notice misaligned eyes or a white pupillary reflex.

3. Immediate Eye Trauma First-Aid

  • Chemical Splash (Lime/Chun, Acid, Detergent): Flush eyes continuously with clean tap water for 15 minutes immediately. Do not delay for transport!
  • Foreign Body or Scratch: Do not rub the eye. Cover lightly with a clean eye pad and visit DECF emergency clinic immediately.
